Humanities and Social Sciences
HUMSS is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people. This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.If you take this strand, you could be looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday. This strand focuses on improving your communication skills. Oh! And priesthood is a choice in here too!.
While it is true that the HUMMS means less math and less numbers, this does not mean that this strand is ‘easier’ than other strands. Part of the curriculum includes introduction to world religions, Philippine and world literature, political and community development specialization subjects, and more.
Humanities according to The British Academy for Humanities & Social Sciences, “Research stemming from a detailed understanding of human behaviour, economies, cultures and societies can dramatically redefine the crucial decisions we need to make. These decisions may involve the future direction of our economy, ways of broadening and strengthening education provision at all levels, or how we deal with the effects of climate or constitutional change… The humanities and social sciences teach us how people have created their world, and how they in turn are created by it.”
The humanities can be described as the study of how people process and document the human experience. For a long time human used philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language to understand and record our world. It is a different approach to the Natural Sciences for Humanities uses mostly experience as foundation for what we know now. Knowledge of these records of human experience gives us the opportunity to feel a sense of connection to those who have come before us, as well as to our contemporaries.
According to Singapore Management University “Social Science, broadly speaking, provides an understanding of how the world works using social and behavioural explanations. In contrast to the natural sciences which focus primarily on natural phenomena, the subject of social science is society itself. Social scientists use empirical research methods and theories to investigate all sorts of interpersonal and intrapersonal behaviour, from why people fall in love to why people commit crimes. It is an exciting field of study that enables governments and organizations to gain insight into how people behave. “

In HUMSS it covers not just political science but literature, anthropology, philosophy, linguistics, communication and psychology. Studying HUMSS doesn’t automatically mean you plan
on becoming a politician or lawyer; you can also be a writer, a counselor or even a broadcaster. Also The perception that HUMSS students are good at dealing with people or arguing their case is just that—a perception.

SOCIAL SCIENCES
A discipline or branch of science that deals with human behavior in its social and cultural aspects.
CORE CURRICULUM SUBJECTS
There are seven Learning Areas under the Core Curriculum: Languages, Literature, Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
ORAL COMUNICATION
Is the process of expressing information or ideas by word of mouth. Learn more about the types and benefits of oral communication, and find out how you can improve your own oral communication abilities.
READING AND WRITING
These skills are important for school, at work, and at home.

Is one of the core curriculum in HUMSS strand that talks about the style of languages that Filipino people use.
CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE ARTS FROM THE REGIONS
Art produced at the present period in time,Contemporary art includes, and develops from, Postmodern art, which is itself a successor to Modern art.
GENERAL MATHEMATICS
Aims to provide students with the knowledge of mathematics in its breadth by drawing its courses from the department's different mathematical divisions: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science.
EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE
Cover all aspects of life on earth such as the complex and dynamic processes in solid earth, the oceans, the atmosphere, the natural world and organisms, including humans.
POLITICS, CULTURE, AND SOCIETY
Is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering political science, social theory, and economics.

In this strand student's are usually very noisy since they interact the most to other people but don't judge it's noisy attitude because student's in this strand are very good in making creative reports and so on. Also student's will learn on how to communicate with other people, enhance their reading,writing and speaking skills, but somehow all student's suffer from a heavy performance task but it's all worth it, it's like "I don't want to make, but I want to do it for my grades." so in the end you end up making your work very nice. If you ever think that humss student are just plain students? well you're wrong students here are curious-minded Some might see the HUMSS strand as boring cause of its specialization subjects like Philippine Politics and Governance, World Religions and Belief Systems, and Social Sciences but it isn’t if you’re constantly curious about the world. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it was the satisfaction that brought it back. Also student's can predict future fascinating isn't it? well that's what humss student's are for, through Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems is meant to familiarize the student with the range of human experiences. From the ancient religions to the newest technological advances, humss students have the chance to predict the future because they will spend time looking at the past and learning from all the mistakes and successes of humanity since the beginning of time. In short, study History and its relevance to the contemporary world. List down “writing” as one of your hobbies, in here it's all more on writing as what you have read humss strand enhance writing, reading and speaking skills, so students are expected to read and write a lot. With subjects like Creative Writing and Creative Nonfiction, you’ll learn how to write poetry, fiction, and drama. For the writers at heart, there’s no more denying that passion. Get a superpower: read minds! REALLY!? well students learn it form it's respective subjects that talks about human behavior. Well, not exactly read minds but with HUMSS, you will have the ability to understand how people think and why they think that way. One of the possible careers a HUMSS graduate can have is by being a psychologist. You can take up courses like Psychology, Human Capital Development, and Humanities in college. Your future careers are very fulfilling why? because Careers like being a lawyer, teacher, and diplomat are very rewarding. You will be able to contribute to the world by bringing justice, molding the youth, or creating friendships between countries. Being in the HUMSS strand gives you the chance to make a mark in the world!.
